E-learning Case Studies
MN CASE Management
The Rivertown team worked with DHS staff to develop a series of three training modules on “Flexible Case Management”. This project was completed in Summer 2005. During this project we programmed the modules for complete accessibility, to meet all requirements of integration into the DHS Pathlore system, and to meet the instructional goals requested. We developed accessible interactions for inclusion in the modules. We interviewed, recorded and edited audio clips of numerous county case managers for use in the modules. We designed a fully accessible interface that provided a fresh interpretation of the existing system standards. We completely documented the system, including the Pathlore integration. We conducted extensive accessibility testing throughout the development cycle, ensuring a completely ADA/Section 508 compliant product. We completed the project on time and within budget.
In 2006 we again worked with DHS to extend the “Flexible Case Management” system with the addition of three additional modules.
- Module 1 was a typical e-learning course.
- Module 2 used the new DHS “Fuzzy Expert” system (artificial intelligence) as a core element and we reprogrammed the base code to work in a multi-user environment and the Pathlore system. We also designed and programmed an interface to meet all accessibility requirements.
- Module 3 developed training based on an “adventure game” metaphor that contained many video and audio elements
Land O’Lakes
Rivertown Communications worked with the Land O’Lakes Company to develop a series of e-learning programs to teach food production topics to workers world wide. Because of the need to rapidly develop the modules in a variety of languages, we programmed the courses to automatically import text and narration. When provided with a new translation, we can add an additional language to a module in about 6 hours.
In this example “Diagnosing Food Borne Illness”, the learner is presented with a number of harmful “bugs”. They are allowed to explore the specifics related to each culprit. In a following exercise, they are asked to diagnose the possible cause of an illness. This screen then becomes one of the diagnostic tools they have available to them to answer scenario-based questions.
Parsons Electric
Parsons Electric is one of the largest electrical contractors in the Midwest. Rivertown Communications is developing approximately 33 hours of web-based e-learning for them. We are developing a content management system to store and present the content we create. An administration panel is being developed to allow Parsons training managers to easily update and add to the system without programming and to minimize future costs. The training will be delivered from our “Learning Management System” and this will give Parsons management easy access to learner progress.
The training is based on a model scenario and will contain numerous interactions, audio narration, system simulations and both scored and non-scored testing. When complete, we will present Parsons with complete system documentation.
AAL/Thrivent
Thrivent Financial (formally AAL) was training approximately 7,000 employees nationwide. We helped them develop a learning management system to present and track the progress of their learner. We have developed over 80 custom courses for them including: Long-Term Care Insurance, Annuities, Lifelong Learning, Selling Skills, Medicare
