The Minnesota Department of Human Resources e-learning web site was created between 2005 and 2007 and is designed to provide State and County workers self-paced training in Case Management. The six modules contained on the site total 9 hours of content and are highly interactive. We programmed the modules for complete accessibility (under Section 508 of ADA) and to integrate into the DHS Pathlore LMS system. We recorded and edited video and audio clips of numerous county case managers for use in the modules.
Unique components of this site include:
- Integration with the new DHS “Fuzzy Expert” system (artificial intelligence). We designed and programmed the Fuzzy Expert system interface to meet all accessibility requirements.
- Training based on an “adventure game” metaphor that contained many video and audio elements.

Rivertown Communications developed a web-based application to allow MHS staff to assign and track completion of articles of the 3,000 authors that will be contributing to the “Encyclopedia of Minnesota” reference book that is now in development. This project demonstrates our ability to develop fully accessible data-driven applications.

Custom Iron

The Custom Iron website was developed to be a primary source of information for the company. Custom Iron is a premiere manufacturer of custom metal stairways and needed an easy way to present their comprehensive product line to their customers. We designed a site that will pull product information from a database. This powerful feature allows Custom Iron staff to easily update their extensive on-line product listing. We recently added a e-learning application accessible from the site to allow Custom Iron to provide self-paced training to their customer base.
J-Mar

J-Mar Builders & Remodelers is a builder of high-quality and environmentally-friendly homes. Rivertown Communications created a website for them that is highly visual so that the exceptional quality of their work can be easily seen. The photos in the portfolio can be easilr updated by J-Mar’s staff without Rivertown involvement. To explain why “green” construction are important, there is a educational section explaining the benefits to the environment and the homeowner is incorporated in the site.
Compass Plus

One of Rivertown Communications “products” is a customizable, on-line, “dual-scale” survey tool. To explain this tool to prospective users we created a site specifically for Compass Plus ™. To explain the features and benefits of using Compass Plus we created short animated tutorials (called “QuickLearns”). QuickLearns are Flash-based and are easy to incorporate in new and existing sites and are a powerful way to present additional information on your organization or products.
Beyond Barriers

Beyond Barriers provides equipment and construction to help people needing physical assistance to live independently in their own homes. They have an extensive product line. Rivertown Communications developed a site for them that allows Beyond Barriers staff to easily add and delete products from a ColdFusion database. This database is fully-searchable from the site and lets Beyond Barriers customers view the complete inventory of products and to create a custom, printable catalog comprised of products of specific interest. An additional feature on the home page is an animated “catalog” that displays a sampling of Beyond Barriers products. This web site has taken the place of creating, printing and mailing expensive physical catalogs. Because many of Beyond Barriers customers are disabled, this site is designed to be full accessible under the ADA and other requirements.
